Brian Navarro , one of those who spotted the new location, reports,”I just noticed yesterday that my envelope said Bloomington instead of Chicago for nearest Netflix facility.”  He added, “Woohoo!”

Questions also remain as to the reason Bloomington was selected to house a Netflix hub.  Could it be that the Twin Cities are pushing especially high demand for Arrested Development reruns and the latest Hollywood blockbusters?

Miller Park

Miller Park has gone from majestic to scary to safe and scenic once again.  The park has always had character: stone bridge, a fine pavilion, mature trees and lots of lakefront views.  Now that the park is safe and restored again, plus lots of family-friendly additions, it provides a great landscape for seasonal photo moments.

Sugar Grove Nature Center at Funks Grove

Just southwest of Bloomington lies a fun, fall hideaway in the Sugar Grove Nature Center.  Funks Grove, known for it’s sweet sirup [sic], has trees galore and plenty of picturesque possibilities.  Area Twitterer @LadyJanet notes the “amazing colors, trees, and prairie,” but reminds amateur photogs that the nature center is a non-profit, so “toss them a couple bucks.”

Constitution Trail

Perhaps the most convenient spot for shots is just down the road. Rather, it is the road. Constitution Trail crisscrosses through Bloomington-Normal and has its share of mature trees ready to burst with color.  Because the Trail is home to runners, bikers, and walkers galore, there is a bench every half mile, perfect for big and small families to pile onto for the Polaroid.

This account also pulls in the weekly BloomingtonNormal.com Get A Job roundup of the best local job opportunities.

@BloNoForSale streams all the best (and worst) from the BN.Craigslist.com virtual marketplace.  This is a great resource for scoring last-minute tickets to area events and concerts, as well as picking up children’s clothes, vinyl and collectibles on the cheap.

Tired of following several different twitter accounts, trying to get all your local headlines? @BloNoNews does the work for you, streaming headlines from all of the major news outlets including WJBC-AM 1230, The Pantagraph, WMBD TV-31, WEEK-TV 25, and WGLT.

If you need to know, hey—what’s going on , @BloNoEvents gathers all the upcoming area events from sources like The Pantagraph and Eventful.  You can submit your own upcoming events through either of these aforementioned web sites.

This pulls from Craigslist, and as with all things Craigslist, this site does not endorse or guarantee the legitimacy of any listings, especially for the 2010 Escalade with 7,000 miles for just $12,000. Shady, in our opinion.

The theater makes way for what is sure to be overpriced, 4-story student apartment housing with a commercial complex at its base.

University Cinemas opened in 1971 as the first multiplex movie theater in BloNo, sporting all of two screens. Most recently, it served as a dollar theater for all of Will Smith’s most questionable movie choices .  It also smelled faintly of urine.

On behalf of everyone who watched Titanic there over and over, we will miss you, UC. What are your memories of the University Cinemas?

Shindler’s List

Fortunately, several local businesses have stepped up to provide free wireless internet for its patrons and a comfortable environment for cruising the web:

The Uptown and Downtown Coffee Hound

Despite the terrible parking that has recently plagued both Bloomington and Normal locations, The Coffee Hound offers often-zippy wireless and the best brews around. It can, however, get crowded with college students and corporate meetings at times, the product of an inviting atmosphere. “Nothing better than a cup of Yirgacheffe, a cranberry-orange scone, and free interwebz,” claims Hound enthusiast Adam Patrick .

Kelly’s Bakery

If carbs are more your style, Kelly Mathy and her crew at Kelly’s Bakery have a perfect download combo.  Home to many made-from-scratch dishes including quiches, soups, and decadent desserts, Kelly’s was also the first local establishment to offer Foursquare awards to its “mayors.”

Destihl

For an internet experience with hops, try Destihl where you can surf with over a dozen homegrown brews on tap.  The food is good, if not pricey, but you can also chase your cold ones with the popular Destihl cheese curds.

Uptown Normal

The town of Normal has put a good amount of time and resources into covering its uptown strip with free wireless.  The service can be spotty at times, but it’s great to be able to take your laptop between some local favorites—like DP Dough , the Children’s Discovery Museum , and even the infamous Roundabout—without missing a beat.

What are some of your favorite wi-fi haunts around town?

The Normal-based bakery diva, aka Sugar Mama Cakes , whipped together a brownie-based iPad replica for her husband’s birthday, complete with fondant-based app icons.  Sugar Mama also takes specialty orders for unique cakes ranging from Guitar Hero guitar-shaped goodies to Harry Potter baked books of spells to Dora the Explorer topsy-turvy desserts. All of them made with love. And sugar—lots of sugar.

Funcannon was in Chicago on a photo shoot with friends for Billboard’s Show Us Your Gaga look-alike contest, where she was a finalist.  It also just so happened to coincide with Lady Gaga’s real-life Chicago appearance at Lollapalooza. The result was throngs of fans gawking, singing and handing over their children.
